"The appearance of changing waves that are sometimes calm, sometimes rough, and sometimes even seem to have stopped... Waves that constantly move, rebel, and create colorful shapes in the sea… Isn’t it similar to our current life...? I wanted to portray the feeling and meaning of the waves to me through this piece."

 

Born in Seoul in 1997, Sanghyun Hong studied composition with Prof. Dietmar Schermann and piano with Jovanka Banjac in Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien until 2020. He is currently studying composition with Prof. Detlev Müller-Siemens. He participated in seminars and one-on-one lessons with composer and conductor Peter Eötvös in Seoul in 2018. In 2020, he had his first piano solo recital at the Punto blue art gallery in Seoul in 2020, and in 2021 he won a Prize at the 2. World Championship in Composition Vienna.
