Andrew Samarasekara currently attends the School of Music at Yale University, where he received his master’s degree. This fall, he will pursue another degree in the studio of professor Ani Kavafian. He participated in masterclasses with Augustin Hadelich, Ida Kavafian, Aaron Rosand, the Emerson Quartet, Brentano Quartet, Doric Quartet, Hagai Shaham, Shlomo Mintz and Frank Huang. He is a recipient of several awards at Yale, as well as at ArsClassica International Competition, Fanny Mendelssohn Competition, Gisborne International Music Competition, International Salzburg Competition and Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra’s Young Soloist Competition. He perfomed in solo and chamber concerts at Sprague Hall of Yale, Konzerthaus Berlin, Wigmore Hall, NEC Jordan Hall, Kauffman Center, Menuhin Hall, Schloss Nymphenburg Munich and the Elgar Room at Royal Albert Hall, as well as at international music festivals, including Norfolk Chamber Music (Yale), Gstaad Menuhin, Mendelssohn on Mull and Crans Montana Classics. This summer, he will attend NUME Academy & Festival, Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival masterclasses and Colorado Music Festival as a member of the String Quartet Fellowship Program, where he will be working with Mi-Kyung Lee, Augustin Hadelich, the JACK Quartet and Peter Oundjian, amongst other artists.
