The Duke Quartet was founded in September 2017 by four Chinese artists. Soon after the establishment the quartet won First Prize in the Hummingbird Music Award of the China–Germany Youth Music Competition hosted by the German Embassy, Beijing in July 2018. Under the tutelage of Professor Franke G. F. Yang, first violinist of the Alexander String Quartet, the young ensemble has taken part in master classes by such musicians as Prof. Hu Kun of Royal School of Music, Prof. Gong Hanxiang of Conservatoire Balthasar-Florence de Namur, Belgium, the Australian String Quartet, Prof. Peter Schuhmayer of University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and Juilliard String Quartet. They attended master classes by the Shanghai Quartet at the Beijing International Music Festival and by Jörg-Wolfgang Jahn at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe, Germany. They were recommended for admission to the Central Conservatory of Music, China, and they will begin their master’s degree studies from the autumn of 2021.
