Sándor Falvai
He has been playing the piano since the age of six. Between 1963 and 1967 he was taught by Bálint Herszényi and Zoltán Benkő at the Miskolc Music High School. Between 1972 and 1973 he studied at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.
Since 1973 he has been teaching at the Piano Department of the Liszt Academy of Music, where he was head of the department for several terms from 1987. He has educated generations of young pianists who perform all over the world.
From 1997 to 2004 he was President of the Liszt Academy of Music.
He is a visiting professor at the Nagoya University of Arts. In addition to Hungary, his master classes are held regularly in Finland, the USA and Japan. Jury member of major international competitions, chaired the Budapest International Liszt Piano Competition three times.
He is a renowned performer on the national and international concert scene. In 1972-73 he toured Germany with the Hungarian Radio Orchestra and in 1973 he came second in the Hungarian Radio Piano Competition. His debut in the United States took place in 1978 at Carnegie Hall in New York. In 2011 he toured Korea on the occasion of the Liszt Year and the Hungarian Presidency of the European Union. His repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the 20th century, with a particular interest in the Classical and Romantic periods.
