Gábor Farkas

The Liszt Ferenc and Junior Prima Prize-winning pianist graduated from the Liszt Academy of Music in 2005, where his teachers were Sándor Falvai and Attila Némethy. He went on to earn a doctorate and then studied at the world-renowned International Piano Academy Lake Como under William Grant Naboré and such masters as Dmitry Bashkirov, Fou Ts'ong, Malcolm Bilson, John Perry and Stanislav Ioudenits. In 2015 he won the grand prize in the New York Concert Artist & Associates competition, which led to his New York debut at Carnegie Hall in 2016. As one of the most outstanding pianists of his generation, he is a widely acclaimed interpreter of the Romantic repertoire and winner of several international piano competitions. He is a regular guest at the world's most important music festivals and concert halls. He has collaborated with such renowned conductors as Zoltán Kocsis, Ádám Fischer, Olli Mustonen, Philippe Bender, George Tchitchinadze, Olaf Henzold, Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi, Tamás Vásáry and Charles Dutoit. He has released several solo albums on Warner Music Hungary, Hungaroton, Toccata Classics London and Steinway & Sons Records. His most recent album, Vienna Evenings, was released in March 2022 and features works related to the imperial city, the piano and the enviable bourgeois music culture. His outstanding talent and career have been recognised by the Hungarian state with the Liszt and Junior Prima Prizes, and he is also a Steinway Artist and recipient of the Aoyama Music Award. Since the academic year 2020/2021, Gábor Farkas has been Head of the Department of Keyboard and the Doctoral School at the Liszt Academy of Music and Visiting Professor at the Tokyo College of Music in Japan.
