Bartók World Competition

Application is open for 2022 Composer’s round of Bartók World Competition

The Bartók World Competition continues this year with the contest of composers. This time the Liszt Academy has called for compositions written for violin and piano in 6-7 minutes length.

Composers under the age of 40 are invited to enter the competition by 23 August 2022. One composer may submit more than one work. Submissions must be made electronically by uploading the required material to

All scores must be sent anonymously, only a pseudonym can appear on the score pages. More details of the competition and all the information about the application are available here. Click here for the  application form.  

The prize-winning works will be presented at a Gala Concert on 26 November 2022 at the Liszt Academy Budapest Solti Hall, where the prizes will be presented to the winners. The composers of the pieces to be performed will be invited to the Gala Concert in Budapest. The organisers will cover travel and two nights of accommodation.

The total prize of the competition is EUR 10 000.

Two pieces selected from among the prize-winning or honourable mention works will be included in the repertoire in the semi-final of the Bartók World Competition – Violin 2023 competition. These works will be published by Universal Music Publishing Editio Musica Budapest

The international jury will be chaired by five Grammy and an Academy awarded John Corigliano american composer.

Members of the prestigious jury are Unsuk Chin, renowned South Korean composer living in Germany, Kristóf Baráti, Liszt Ferenc - and Kossuth award winning, renowned violinist, professor of the Liszt Academy, and Kuzma Bodrow pianist and composer of numerous russian movies, professor of Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Moscow, as well as Gyula Fekete, artistic director of the Bartók World Competition - Composer's Competition.
