The pre-jury decided to invite 15 quartets to Budapest

The jury of the qualifying round of the Bartók World Competition for string quartets this year - Kossuth Prize-winning violinist and conductor András Keller, who is also a member of the international jury of the live rounds, violinist Attila Falvay, Concertmaster of the National Philharmonic, and Péter Kováts, Artistic Director of the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra, both on the teaching staff of the Liszt Academy - have decided to allow 15 quartets, as opposed to the 12 envisaged, to compete in the live rounds. The contestants will be young talent from America, Asia and Europe, with one Hungarian quartet also in the preliminaries.

The live rounds start on 25 October at the Liszt Academy, and the Gala concert will take place in the Solti Hall on 31 October.  Depending on the pandemic situation, the audience is expected to be able personally attend the €24,000 competition, but each round will be available on high-quality online streaming worldwide.
