Bartók World Competition & Festival

competition for composers 2020

Online stream of the Award Ceremony and Gala Concert at 19:00 CET on 28 November

All the excitement of so many months will be condensed in the Solti Hall of the Liszt Academy of Music, at the Gala Concert of the Bartók World Competition.

The pre-selection jury, chaired by Gyula Fekete, selected 17 compositions out of the record number of 348 valid applications, that will advance to the next stage. The international jury had choosed the 3 winner pieces and four more for Honorable Mention.

So we had invited seven young composers to the event, but all we told them was that they were among the best. The prize they won will be revealed only at the concert, and this is the most exciting: to see the faces of the contestants as they hear their names achieving a prize - at the Bartók World Competition, which is dating back only 4 years, but considered among  the most prestigious music competitions.

So part of the program is a surprise, another part is a tribute to Bartók in the performance of the most outstanding young Hungarian string quartets. The program of the Gala is available here.

Live stream will be available on the website and Youtube channel of the Liszt Academy. If you want to be there in person, you can request free tickets on the website here, or at the Ticket Office in the Liszt Ferenc tér, we welcome all music lovers!

Our cooperating partner is Editio Musica Budapest.
