At the heart of this concert lies the spirit of shared artistry and chamber music. Even in the second half of the evening, the soloists don’t just perform with the orchestra; they engage in dialogue with each other. The first half features two Beethoven works from opposite ends of his creative life. The Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 3 (1798), dedicated to his teacher Antonio Salieri, stands in striking contrast to the fifth and final sonata for cello and piano. They reveal the remarkable continuity and evolution of Beethoven’s musical language across time. Between these two pillars, excerpts will be performed from Robert Schumann’s Album for the Young, a collection of twelve piano pieces originally written for small and large children, which became one of the composer’s most beloved works during his lifetime. The second half brings a Felix Mendelssohn concerto, composed when he was just fourteen years old, which was the composer’s third concerto in a row. Although the piece remained unpublished during Mendelssohn's lifetime and was not released in a critical edition until 1999, it has since become one of the most frequently performed of Mendelssohn’s concertos.
