The concert of the young Terembura Group offers a taste of the rich diversity of percussion music: it draws equally from classical traditions, the rhythms of distant cultures, and the most modern contemporary compositional techniques. The program opens with an energetic piece by iconic figures of the Hungarian percussion school, followed by Couperin and Debussy classics arranged by Benjámin Mohácsi. Barnabás Dukay’s work, marked by philosophical depth and meditative stillness – also known in its marimba version – forms a profound contrast to David Lang’s repetitive minimalism. The second half continues with exciting contemporary works: Carola Bauckholt’s piece will receive its Hungarian premiere, while Dániel Láposi’s Interwoven will have its world premiere. The concert concludes with John Cage’s percussion masterpiece Third Construction, known for its complex rhythms, and a performance of traditional African music. Moving confidently between styles, Terembura Group demonstrates that, as a promising young ensemble, they are already enriching Hungary’s percussion scene with fresh energy and originality.
