Rohmann Ditta (cello)
Ditta Rohmann’s recital brings together works from the Baroque, 20th century, and contemporary cello repertoire. The evening begins with two of J. S. Bach’s cello suites, performed in an inventive maggiore–minore pairing – matching dance movements written in the same key, one in major and one in minor. Next, Imogen Holst – daughter of The Planets composer Gustav Holst – takes the spotlight as a composer in her own right. Her 1963 work The Fall of the Leaf will receive its Hungarian premiere. The program continues with Seven by Andrea Casarrubios, a Spanish cellist-composer who, in 2025, became the first Spanish artist ever nominated for a Grammy – precisely for this piece. The audience of the Solti Hall will now have the chance to experience the award-nominated work live. Spanish colors return in Gaspar Cassadó’s Suite for Solo Cello, whose three movements (Preludio – Fantasia, Sardana, Intermezzo e Danza Finale) are often described as an allegory of Spain. The concert closes with two contemporary works: an excerpt from Pēteris Vasks’ Grāmata čellam (The Book, 1978), and Italian Giovanni Sollima’s Lamentatio (1998).
