In this series, we introduce some of the Liszt Academy’s most promising young talents. Each year, in cooperation with the Chamber Music Department, the university organizes a kind of fare where student ensembles can present themselves through an interesting program concept or project idea. The performance of the Ars Septem ensemble revolves around an unusually personal theme: childhood, and the inner world of children. Music history is full of works written for children or inspired by them, but the musicians’ selections here paint a much more layered picture. Their aim is to bring to life the childlike spirit itself – wonder, playfulness, and honesty. So let’s set everyday life aside for a while and rediscover what it feels like when a wind quintet, joined by piano and voice, calls up Kosztolányi’s lines in us once again:

“... a shadow flew above my head,

my childhood, that I’d given up for dead,

and buried long ago.”
