Jazz It!
Jazz Concert by Thomas Quasthoff and Friends
Presented by Liszt Academy
Thomas Quasthoff (vocals, moderator), Simon Oslender (keyboard), Wolfgang Meyer (guitar), Shawn Grocott (trombone)
Those familiar with the legendary opera and lied singer Thomas Quasthoff’s artistic persona won’t be surprised by his effortless mastery of various genres – whether it’s folk, opera arias, pop, or jazz and soul. He naturally adapts to each style with an authentic tone. According to one music critic, “Quasthoff dedicates his entire personality to the service of music and lyrics, avoiding any artificiality, reaching his audience with pure honesty”. After winning three Grammy Awards and six ECHO Awards, the German baritone retired in 2012. However, he did not bid farewell to the stage completely and has stayed connected with the public as an actor, cabaret performer, and presenter. His jazz musician friends, such as Wolfgang Meyer and Shawn Grocott, encouraged him to join them, leading him to discover his newest instrument: the microphone. Now, he effortlessly “conjures up an entire drum kit from his throat.”
