Date of birth: 30 June, 1994

Yigit Karatas started his studies at the Istanbul University State Conservatory under Veniamin Varshavsky, then continued at the Manhattan School of Music in New York with full scholarship under Albert Markov. Later, he pursued his masters degree at The Juilliard School with Frank Huang. He is currently finishing his DMA program at Stony Brook University in New York. He won the first prize at the International Suna Kan Violin Competition, top prize at the Waldo Mayo International Violin Competition in New York, first prize of the 4th National Gulden Turali Violin Competition, second prize at International Marsyas Violin Competition, third prize at the VIVO International Music Competition in New York. He has worked with soloists such as Ivry Gitlis, Shlomo Mintz, Maxim Vengerov, Cihat Aşkın, and Vadim Gluzman, and participated in masterclasses of Leonidas Kavakos, Ida Haendel, Itzhak Rashkovsky, Albert Markov. He performed in a concert where he served as the concertmaster of World Peace Orchestra in Lincoln Center, New York Philharmonic’s hall, at the University International Music Festival in Belfort, and as a soloist in seven concerts with the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and as the concertmaster in the final concert of this ensemble at Carnegie Hall – Stern Auditorium in New York.
